NewCarTest Drive via AOL Autos: http://autos.aol.com/cars-Toyota-Sienna-2005-LE__4dr_Front_wheel_Drive_Passenger_Van/expert-review/
“The Toyota Sienna is comfortable and easy and does everything well. It's big and roomy and packed with features that make life easier and more convenient. Its power sliding doors and power rear liftgate work superbly well and a rear-view camera is available to help spot trouble behind. There's more cargo space here than in the Sequoia full-size sport-utility, yet the Sienna costs $10,000 less.

Its smooth ride, responsive handling, and brisk acceleration performance make the Sienna a pleasant companion on the road. Its 230-horsepower V6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission deliver responsive throttle response while turning in good fuel economy.All-wheel drive is available for more secure travel in foul weather. And the Sienna is rated to tow up to 3500 pounds.

This is one of the best minivans you can buy, against which other minivans should be measured. Its smoothness and convenience causes the Sienna to fade into the background while you go about your life.Completely redesigned as a 2004 model, the Sienna eases into 2005 with minor upgrades in standard equipment. This latest-generation Sienna is larger and more powerful than pre-2004 versions.”

“All models, starting with the CE ($23,225), come standard with a 60/40 Split & Stow third-row bench seat, power windows, door locks and mirrors, sliding doors on both sides with power windows, keyless entry, AM/FM/cassette/CD with six speakers, dual-zone (front and rear) air conditioning with rotary dial controls, 16-inch steel wheels with 215/65R16 all-season tires, a folding tray table between the front seats, tilt/telescopic steering column, black lacquered interior trim, tire pressure warning system, variable intermittent front and rear windshield wipers, 10 cup holders, four bottle holders, three 12-volt power outlets, and a heavy-duty rear window defogger with timer. New High Solar Energy-Absorbing (HSEA) glass on the windshield and front side windows helps reduce cabin temperature.

The most popular model is the Sienna LE ($24,730), which comes with nicer cloth fabric, upgraded trim and a host of convenience features: engine immobilizer, audio controls on the steering wheel, heated power mirrors, a roof rack, privacy glass, cruise control, driver's seat manual-adjustable lumbar support, illuminated vanity mirrors, color-keyed license plate garnish, and a fold-flat front passenger seat.”

NewCarTestDrive: http://autos.aol.com/cars-Dodge-Neon-2000/expert-review/
http://www.vehix.com/car-reviews/2000/plymouth/neon/expert-reviews/nctd
The Dodge Neon offers a solid value among compact sedans. Roomy and fun to drive, it delivers style and performance.
Chrysler has completely redesigned its Neon for model year 2000. The new one is far more refined than before. Neon no longer says Hi." Now it says "Hello. How are you?" You'll recognize it as a Neon, but you'll also notice it's new.
It's more pleasant to live with than early models, which were initially Spartan, unrefined and noisy. This new, second-generation model moves the Neon up a rung on the compact car food chain. Compared with the previous model, the new Neon is solid, serious and sophisticated.
Chrysler first introduced the Neon in January 1994. Back then, it was the roomiest car in its class. It was quick and fun to drive. And it was inexpensive. After listening to consumers, Chrysler believed the original Neon was the perfect answer. Those consumers had told Chrysler that they were tired of paying high prices: Americans now wanted a good five-cent cigar. So Chrysler designed the Neon to be a low-priced car. But the company quickly discovered that people really wanted more than that. They may have said they wanted a cheap car, but they also wanted refinement, quality and comfort. It was a hard lesson…And that brings us to the 2000 Neon.
The 2000 Neon looks similar to the old one, but all the bodywork is new. Those ovoid headlamps continue to be a key styling cue, but they've been redesigned with jewel-like reflectors that add sophistication. The design of the front fascia is more integrated. A new tail lamp design along with more pronounced wheel arches offer a crisp, less rounded look...
Overall, the new Neon is longer and wider than before. It rides on a longer wheelbase with a slightly wider track (the distance between the front wheels). These changes make for a roomier interior, but they also smooth out the ride quality and increase stability at high speeds. The ground clearance has been raised slightly to accommodate longer suspension travel, which further improves ride quality…
The new body structure is much more rigid, which ultimately results in a smoother, quieter, more controlled ride. Full frame doors reduce wind noise and create a tighter seat of door to body. The latest sound-deadening technology helps isolate the cabin from engine and road noise.
Though Chrysler had continually improved the interior of the last generation Neon, the interior of the new Neon was completely redesigned and is much nicer than before. For starters, there's more of it. The bigger cabin offers more front hip room and more space for nicer seats. The driver sits a little higher than before for improved visibility.
Back-seat passengers benefit the most from the larger interior with more head, shoulder and hip room. The trunk is significantly deeper than before. The rear seats split and fold down for carrying additional cargo.
Sporty new gauges grace a redesigned instrument panel with a wide dashboard brow. Premium door trim and materials that are soft to the touch provide a richer appearance and feel. The interior comes standard with four cupholders and AM/FM/cassette with six speakers
Neon's redesigned single overhead-cam 2.0-liter engine feels more powerful than its predecessor. A new air induction system broadens the torque curve, which makes the car feel more powerful around town. A new exhaust manifold, cylinder head cover and timing belt cover, and attention to a myriad of details reduce noise.
The brake pedal feels firmer. The brake system was redesigned for improved pedal feel. The thickness of the front brake rotors was increased and low-metallic linings were used to keep them from squealing.
While last year's Neon was quick and fun to drive, the all-new 2000 is a much more pleasant companion. It has been improved in every way. It's roomier, smoother, quieter, and more comfortable. The Neon offers a good value, but be sure to look past the base price. Air conditioning, antilock brakes, remote keyless entry, power windows and other conveniences we're beginning to take for granted are all extra-cost options.
In short, the Dodge Neon is a top contender among compact cars. It's practical and fun to drive and should be on the shopping list

EXPERT REVIEWS:
NewCarTestDrive: http://autos.aol.com/cars-Toyota-Yaris-2010-Base__4dr_Sedan/expert-review/
“The Toyota Yaris is the lowest priced Toyota and the model that best represents the value of good, basic transportation. But, the Yaris is better than just good. It boasts handsome looks, pleasant road manners, perky performance, and a well-tailored interior. It's a superb subcompact.
All Yaris models are powered through the front wheels by a 1.5-liter engine with an output of 106 horsepower. A five-speed manual transmission is now standard on all models, while a four-speed automatic is optional.
For 2010, Toyota Yaris comes standard with the full Toyota Star Safety System. It gets the full complement of air bags all around. The 2010 Yaris comes with Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and traction control (TRAC), in addition to its already-standard anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist.
All Yaris models combine an inexpensive sticker price, outstanding fuel mileage and the solid integrity that underlies every Toyota. While some hybrid-powered vehicles offer superior fuel economy, they're significantly more expensive than the Yaris, so it would require many, many miles at very high fuel prices to balance that equation. When viewed in terms of total ownership costs, the Yaris is one of the least expensive new cars available today. It's an outstanding value.
We've found the Yaris practical and enjoyable to drive. The cabin is roomy, the seats are comfortable and the interior fabrics are quite nice, relative to the price point. Around town, the Yaris excels as a runabout, dashing about wherever you need to go, with agile handling and the sort of responsive performance useful in heavy traffic. It keeps up with freeway traffic well and makes for a good commuter car.”
“…come(s) standard with air conditioning, power steering, tilt steering wheel, intermittent wipers, rear center headrest, driver and passenger vanity mirrors, front and rear cupholders, digital clock, UV glass, map light, rear-window defroster. Standard tires are P175/65R14 on steel rims.
Standard passive safety equipment includes dual-stage driver and front passenger airbags, front seat-mounted side airbags, front and rear side-curtain airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, plus three-point seatbelts and head restraints for all five seating positions. Always wear seat belts as they are your first line of defense in a crash.”
“The Toyota Yaris excels as around-town transportation, price considered or not. Forget the entry-level label. The Yaris feels and performs much better than its MSRP would suggest.
The economical 1.5-liter engine has more than enough power to keep up with the pack, the supple ride smoothes out most bumps and dips, the handling is almost sporty when the road opens up, the steering feels much better than what you might expect in an entry-level car, and the brakes haul the 2,300-pound Yaris to a halt with confidence. Pedal feel is direct, and even though the rear brakes are drums and not discs, stopping power is more than sufficient. Pedal feel is especially good (something we can't say about some of the upscale electronic braking systems on the market).”
“The Toyota Yaris proves that inexpensive should not be confused with cheap. From their well sculptured exterior lines to the tailored, upscale look of their interiors, little about the Yaris Liftback or Sedan suggests the cutting of corners. The Yaris is practical and convenient. Agile and zippy, the Yaris excels around town and works well for commuting.”

NewCarTestDrive via Yahoo! Autos: http://autos.yahoo.com/2010_honda_accord_sedan_lx_5_spd_at-reviews_expert/
“The Honda Accord comes in sedan and coupe versions. Either way, the Accord is big on efficiency, be it getting the most power and range from a gallon of gas with the least emissions, making the largest interior available given the exterior space it takes up, or providing the smoothest, quietest ride possible with the lightest weight. Whether moving four people comfortably or enjoying the long way home, the Accord is up to the task.

The Accord was completely redesigned for 2008, when it grew in exterior dimensions and interior roominess, safety, and value. The two model years since have brought little change.

For 2010, all Accord models with leather interiors come with a Bluetooth hands-free phone link… and climate controls on all models have new colors and graphics for easier identification.”

“The Accord is available with a choice of four-cylinder and V6 engines, manual or automatic transmission, and essentially four trim levels.
Accord LX sedans are equipped with a 177-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. The LX Sedan ($21,055) comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, power mirrors and door locks, power windows, variable intermittent wipers, tilt-and-telescoping steering column and illuminated wheel-mounted controls, folding rear seats, and an MP3/WMA/auxiliary-input 160-watt sound system. Wheels are 16-inch steel with P215/60HR16 tires.

Safety equipment is standard, with six airbags, including two-stage front airbags, dual-chamber front side airbags, side curtain airbags; active front head restraints, electronic stability control, antilock brakes with electronic brake distribution and brake assist, and tire pressure monitors.”

“The Honda Accord features contemporary yet conservative design highlighted by a strong character line that slopes down and forward…Last redesigned for 2008, the current Accord features narrow windshield pillars and a low cowl for good forward visibility, Honda hallmarks. The rear door pillars share the kink popularized decades ago by BMW and becoming ever more frequent…

The current Accord sedan is larger than any before, and although it competes in the mid-size market segment it is by EPA interpretation a large car. It is about five inches longer than primary competitor Camry, and more than three inches longer that the Nissan Altima and Maxima.”
“Honda owners will feel right at home in the Accord, one reason repeat buyers account for a good chunk of sales. It is light and airy, spacious, with thoughtful layout and plenty of elbow room. Everything you touch feels right for the price, everything you need seems to be here, and everyone on board should be comfortable.

Accord LX models provide pleasing design and materials and a variety of storage areas for modern conveniences and old-fashioned vices.”

“The Honda Accord is an easy drive with good manners regardless of model, engine or transmission. It comes across as firmer than most Camry models but smoother and softer than the Altima.

The softest-riding model is the Accord LX by virtue of 16-inch tires with a larger sidewall, and the mildest suspension calibration. It's also the lightest and best balanced model. Not as mellow as the Camry but gentler than much of the competition, the Accord LX handles bad roads with aplomb and basically goes where it's pointed…The Accord LX stays relatively flat in the corners, doesn't nosedive under braking, and makes stable transitions working down a winding road or through city clutter. Steering is light, direct, and makes quick work of a U-turn.”

“The Honda Accord is easy to operate, well-engineered and well-mannered. It's a great midsize sedan and it's also available as a stylish, trouble-free coupe.”

EXPERT REVIEWS:
NewCarTestDrive via AOL Autos: http://autos.aol.com/cars-Nissan-Versa-2009-1.6__4dr_Sedan/expert-review/
“The Nissan Versa is an excellent choice among subcompacts. It's big and roomy inside with decent head room and legroom and lots of hip room, making it a good choice for larger drivers. Its big, cushy seats are comfortable. Back-seat passengers will find rear-seat leg room as good as that in larger cars and SUVs. The cabin is nicely finished and offers all the modern conveniences.

It offers the small-car virtues of nimble handling, easy parking, and lively yet efficient performance. Versa delivers an EPA-estimated 31 mpg on the highway with the automatic, 33 mpg with the manual transmission.
The Versa is slightly bigger than the lower priced Toyota Yaris and the more expensive Honda Fit. All three are subcompacts designed with tall rooflines for increased interior comfort and visibility. The Versa is the smallest car you'll find in Nissan showrooms: smaller and less expensive than the compact Nissan Sentra, but offering greater interior space and more versatility.

The Versa has received the highest possible ratings in government and insurance industry crash tests, though keep in mind that's among small cars (five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration; and a "good" rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). Versa safety features include dual-stage frontal air bags, front-seat side-impact air bags for chest protection, and roof-mounted curtain air bags for head protection…
Bottom line, the Nissan Versa is a big small car with comfort, performance and versatility. It's roomy and offers good fuel economy.”

“Versa S ($12,990) comes standard with cloth upholstery; air conditioning with micro filter; four-speaker, 120-watt AM/FM/CD stereo; tilt steering column; and 185/65R15 tires on 15-inch steel wheels. A six-speed manual transmission is standard..Safety features include frontal airbags, side-impact airbags, roof-mounted curtain airbags, front-seat active head restraints, and a tire pressure monitoring system.”

“The Nissan Versa looks bigger than it is. One reason for that is an exceptionally short rear overhang: Very little of the car extends past the rear wheels…”

“The huge front seats in the Nissan Versa are roomy and comfortable. As with the other cars in this class, the Versa driver gets lots of legroom and headroom. In terms of hip room, however, the Versa is a real standout. The width and the substantial structure of the front seats may make the Versa a great choice among subcompacts for big drivers. The cloth-covered seats are comfortable without being too soft and offer plenty of side support.

The back seat is particularly impressive. As you get in you'll be pleasantly surprised by the size of the rear door and how the front edge of the rear wheel well does not intrude as you step in. There are many larger four-door sedans and even many large SUVs that have smaller rear door openings. Even a six-footer shouldn't feel cramped as the rear seat legroom is at or near the top of the class. The Versa sedan gives up about half an inch of rear-seat headroom to the hatch, but that's not all that much.”

“One of the reasons for its excellent highway economy is its continuously variable transmission, or CVT. Nissan has been a standout in this technology; it's so well integrated into the Murano that drivers often don't notice it was anything other than a regular automatic.

A CVT doesn't shift gears like an automatic transmission. Instead, a segmented belt rides up and down on cone-shaped pulleys to vary the speed ratio between the engine and the drivetrain. It works more efficiently than a traditional automatic, which is why the Versa equipped with a CVT delivers such good highway mileage. Around town it has the same economy as a manual transmission, better than an automatic, in other words.”

“The Nissan Versa delivers decent performance and has a surprising amount of interior space. It feels bigger than it actually is, which is a good thing. There's lots of room for back-seat riders. The hatch offers big cargo space. The Versa gets excellent fuel economy, particularly on the highway. The CVT works well, though it will feel a bit different at first."

EARTHY CAR OF THE WEEK: 2008 Silver Subaru Impreza Sedan

2008 Subaru Impreza 2.5i, Sedan, Silver, 90208 mi, $11,900 http://bit.ly/mXPP7A Compact, 4-spd manual, MPG = 20/27

2008 Subaru Impreza 2.5i, Sedan, Silver, 92517 mi, $12,900 http://bit.ly/nVuSel Compact, 4-spd automatic, MPG = 20/27

We have two Subaru Impreza’s that are the same year (2008), model, and color (silver). However, one is automatic and one is manual.

At $12,900 and $11,900, they are relatively low priced for a 3-year old vehicle.

Like all Subaru’s sold in the U.S., the Impreza is an all wheel drive. It is an ideal compact vehicle for the Vermont winters.
