If you desire a car with basic features and nothing more, low-priced but reliable and not too old, then this Chevy Aveo is perfect for you.

At only $4,900, this Chevy Aveo the lowest priced car on our lot. It is just 6 years old and well maintained. Although it is a “basic” car, it comes with decent features (see below).

The Aveo is the most international car I’ve ever come across – it was designed in Italy, based on a model originally from South Korea (Daewoo Kalos), and currently manufactured by an American company. The Aveo has a piece of North America, Asia, and Europe. It’s available in 120 countries – I saw plenty of them when I was in Singapore.

The Aveo is a subcompact vehicle. That means it’s easy to park and move around. It’s a bit smaller than other subcompacts like the Toyota Yaris or Honda Fit, but larger than a Smart car.

Check this out if you’re in the market for a low-priced, small, basic vehicle.

Aveo is based on the Daewoo Kalo, a Korean car that's popular in many countries around the world.

The base models are basic, but the interiors are quite nice. The front seats are comfortable and the back seats are surprisingly roomy. The Aveo looks good, and the body panels fit well. Both models get zippy performance from a twin-cam four-cylinder engine built by GM. Sharp steering makes the Aveo fun to drive, while its decent ride and reasonably quiet cabin make for pleasant transportation.”

EARTHY CAR OF THE WEEK: 2010 Blue Toyota Prius

This Toyota Prius is the newest vehicle on our lot – tied with this one.
It is the only 3rd generation Prius on our lot, out of the six Prius’s currently on our lot.

For those of you who don’t know, the Prius is a hybrid electric vehicle. It runs on a combination of gasoline and electric power. Ever since the disaster in Japan, Toyota Prius’s have been in short supply. We are one of the few dealerships in the area to carry a decent supply of Prius’s. Ours are the lowest priced.

It is the most fuel efficient vehicle on our lot – it can get up to 51 miles per gallon of gas, average 50! The 3rd generation Prius is close to being the most fuel efficient vehicle available in America. By far, it is the most fuel efficient electric hybrid vehicle (for info, see here, here, and here).

With rising gas prices, depleting oil resources and over-reliance on foreign oil, it is wise to get a fuel efficient vehicle if you want to save money and protect the environment. It’s best to get one that is a hybrid/electric vehicle. This is the best one out there.

This Mustang GT is an untypical Earthy Car. It’s a sports car. It’s a convertible. It’s all-American (made in America, and a symbol of American culture). It’s not as fuel efficient as the vehicles we usually have, but it’s bigger and much more powerful (its power comes from a 4.6 liter, V8 cylinder engine, with horsepower of 260hp @ 5,250RPM). You can hear it when you rev up the engine.

The Mustang has existed since 1964. It created the car category known as the ‘pony car’ – a sporty, compact 2-door car with a long hood and a short deck. The 2001 Mustang is a part of the 4th generation of Mustang’s.

“The funky-looking little Echo is the least expensive way to drive a new Toyota. You won't wow your friends with this one, but it will give you Toyota's quality, durability and reliability starting at less than $10,000.

The Toyota Echo comes with a spunky four-cylinder engine that can achieve over 30 mpg around town. You get front-wheel drive, a nicely tuned suspension that delivers the ride of a much larger vehicle, and Toyota's anti-vibration tricks that make the car amazingly smooth at highway speeds.”

“[The Echo] wasn't designed for looks. It was designed for comfort, convenience, safety and affordability. So it's tall. Way tall. Unheard of tall for a subcompact. Like, taller than a Cadillac, which is much, much longer.

With one swift, upward stroke, Toyota designers have erased the biggest factor against owning a small car: that feeling that other vehicles could squash you like a bug. In the Echo, it no longer feels like everyone is bigger and faster than you.
You might also be passing them, propelled by your smooth, energetic, high-tech, 108-horsepower, politically correct LEV (Low-Emissions Vehicle) engine.”

“You might also congratulate yourself on your own minimalist efficiency each time you climb inside, which, with Echo's low floor and high roof, is easy. There's not one gauge or button or knob or display more or less than is needed. The instrument binnacle is strikingly clean and simple, with a speedometer having handsome black-on-white lettering reminiscent of a Lexus, glowing bluish at night. Seven little round black dots, warning lights, are bunched so they look sort of like a domino on the dash. The digital clock is easy to read. There's no tachometer (that's a frill) but there is a rev limiter (which is not).” “Possibly the most astonishing characteristic of the Echo is that you might find yourself going way fast without knowing it. On a curvy two-lane stretch where we carefully respect the law by driving no faster than 60 even in the straight sections, we glanced over (not down) at the speedometer and were startled to see 72 mph. Another outstanding feature that contributes to this subcompact phenomenon is the super ride quality. MacPherson struts and coil springs in front, with torsion beams in back, allows the 2020-pound Echo to glide over bumps. Against a pothole your teeth can get rattled as in almost any other car, but the Echo feels tough, and takes the hit like a bantamweight boxer standing up to a jab.”

The Volkswagen Jetta sedan is perfect for car for families with parents and two or three kids. It’s a compact car, so it’s not too big, but the Jetta is larger than other compact sedans (Corolla, Civic, Sentra, etc.). Your family will be comfortable inside it, but it won’t take up a lot of room either.

Priced at less than 11K, the Jetta is also ideal for a single person looking for an affordable car.

The Jetta is the 2nd smallest Volkswagen brand sold in the United States (behind the Rabbit). Like most compact sedans, the Jetta has an excellent reputation. The 2006 Jetta is the first 5th generation Jetta Jetta model.

Kia is one of the two major brands from South Korea with vehicles in the United States. The Spectra model (was) Kia’s primary compact car.

This Kia Spectra is just two years old, and has only 23,703 miles on it. Its previous owner also maintained it well. There is barely a scratch on it, and it runs smoothly.

Priced at $12,900, this Kia is low-priced for a two year old vehicle.

Like the Corolla (which we have plenty of), Civic, or Sentra, the Kia Spectra is a compact, economical car that is affordable. Like those model, the Spectra has an excellent reputation – read the reviews linked below.

The Kia Spectra is perfect for small families, or young singles looking for a basic, but good quality car.

We don’t have Nissan’s on our lot that often, but this Nissan Sentra is economical, practical, compact, and fuel-efficient, like most of our vehicles.
Our Sentra is seven years old, yet it has less than 70,000 miles on it. That’s low for a seven year old car.

This particular Sentra is a ULEV (ultra-low emissions vehicle), meaning it emits less pollution than a typical vehicle. You will be doing your part to save the environment.

The 2004 Sentra is quite stylish and roomier than a typical economy car (see review below).

It is priced at just $7,900, an affordable price and a great value for what you get.

“Nissan Sentra gets updated styling and an upgraded interior for 2004. The changes give the Sentra a more contemporary appearance with a toothy grille reminiscent of the 2004 Maxima…The basic product and its mission have not changed, however. The Sentra remains practical and frugal, roomy and comfortable.”

Exterior: “Sentra features restyled headlamps and rear combination lamps, a new smooth front and rear fascia with a fresh hood design and a distinctive grille. The changes are designed to take the styling of the Sentra to a new level with more flair, making it look more stylish, assertive, and self-confident...Sentra maintains its flush-mounted, one-piece multi-parabola halogen headlamps as well as its body-color front grille, side moldings and bumpers. Handsome and solid, the basic Sentra design features a low hood line, high rear deck, and strong rear fenders, with a distinct front-to-rear character line.”

Interior: “Sentra offers a roomy interior, both for people and cargo. The interior is designed well from a functionality standpoint and everything seems to fit well. ..At first glance the Sentra's front seats look like normal economy car perches, but once you're in them they feel much roomier than they look. The driver's seat is eight-way adjustable (four-way on the base 1.8 model), with a four-way adjustable passenger seat. Driver and passenger sit relatively high in the hip area, making getting in and out easier.”

Driving: “Sentra 1.8 and 1.8 S models run smoothly and quietly. They feel stable at high speeds, and wind and tire noise are low. The 1.8-liter engine turns a relatively calm 4500 rpm at 100 mph. At the legal limit of 70 mph, the 1.8-liter engine turns just 3100 rpm in fifth gear when equipped with the five-speed manual…For longer life with less maintenance, the Sentra engine uses a timing chain instead of a cheaper timing belt.”
