EARTHY CAR OF THE WEEK: 2005 Chevy Aveo

2005 Chevrolet Aveo LS, Hatchback, Silver, 107219 mi, $4,900 http://ht.ly/5xkEl Subcompact, 5-spd automatic, MPG = 23/32

If you desire a car with basic features and nothing more, low-priced but reliable and not too old, then this Chevy Aveo is perfect for you.

At only $4,900, this Chevy Aveo the lowest priced car on our lot. It is just 6 years old and well maintained. Although it is a “basic” car, it comes with decent features (see below).

The Aveo is the most international car I’ve ever come across – it was designed in Italy, based on a model originally from South Korea (Daewoo Kalos), and currently manufactured by an American company. The Aveo has a piece of North America, Asia, and Europe. It’s available in 120 countries – I saw plenty of them when I was in Singapore.

The Aveo is a subcompact vehicle. That means it’s easy to park and move around. It’s a bit smaller than other subcompacts like the Toyota Yaris or Honda Fit, but larger than a Smart car.

Check this out if you’re in the market for a low-priced, small, basic vehicle.

EXPERT REVIEW:
Sam Moses via NewCar Test Drive:
“The Chevrolet Aveo offers affordable transportation in a choice of four-door sedan or five-door hatchback. [The] Aveo challenges the Toyota Echo, Scion xA, Kia Rio, and Hyundai Accent for the base rung of the transportation ladder. Aveo is based on the Daewoo Kalo, a Korean car that's popular in many countries around the world.

The base models are basic, but the interiors are quite nice. The front seats are comfortable and the back seats are surprisingly roomy. The Aveo looks good, and the body panels fit well. Both models get zippy performance from a twin-cam four-cylinder engine built by GM. Sharp steering makes the Aveo fun to drive, while its decent ride and reasonably quiet cabin make for pleasant transportation.”
“The Chevrolet Aveo body was created, believe it or not, in Giorgetto Giugiaro's Italdesign studio in Turin, Italy. And the Italian influence shows, especially in the smooth sedan, which is better looking than the Hyundai Accent or Kia Rio. The sedan and five-door hatchback ride on the same relatively generous 97.6-inch wheelbase”

“The nose is nice: simple and clean with tidy shapes. The headlights are horizontal and nicely rounded at the corners, underlined in amber by long, thin turn signals. The grille smiles at you with its bright crossbar and Chevy bowtie set against inconspicuous black mesh. Both front and rear bumpers are body colored and integrate well with the shape of the car.”
